Assetto Corsa EVO has picked up its Version 0.8 update, landing on the PC early access build on 9th July. Kunos has pushed out another round of content alongside a change that will interest anyone who’s been waiting to race modded cars against other people: multiplayer mod support.
That last part is the headline for most of us. Assetto Corsa’s first life was defined by its mod scene, and the ability to run community content in online sessions is a large piece of what made the original title stick around for as long as it has. Getting that into EVO — even in an early access state — is a meaningful step rather than a cosmetic one. The update also brings additional content to the game, with the full changelog published by Kunos for anyone who wants to dig into the specifics line by line.
Worth keeping expectations calibrated, though. EVO is still an early access product, and 0.8 is a version number that tells you plenty about where the game sits. Multiplayer mod support existing and multiplayer mod support being good are different claims, and the second one only gets answered once servers fill up and people start running content of wildly varying quality against each other. Early access mod pipelines have a history of being rough before they’re smooth.
Why it matters: EVO’s long-term health probably depends more on the modding ecosystem than on anything Kunos ships in the base game, and every update that opens that door wider is one that moves the needle. If you’ve been sitting out early access waiting for the game to feel like a real successor rather than a foundation, 0.8 doesn’t change the fundamental math — but it’s the kind of change that gets you closer to that point.
