BeamNG.drive has put out a new teaser showing its PS5 Pro version running with PSSR, Sony’s machine-learning upscaler that’s exclusive to the Pro hardware. Traxion spotted the clip, which is BeamNG’s first public look at how the soft-body physics sandbox will take advantage of the more powerful console.
Details are thin beyond that. The teaser focuses on the upscaling side, meaning the game will render at a lower internal resolution and let PSSR reconstruct a sharper image, freeing up GPU headroom that could go toward frame rate or visual settings. BeamNG hasn’t attached numbers to any of this — no target resolution, no frame-rate claims, and no release date for the console version itself, which is still listed as upcoming. Whether the base PS5 gets a different rendering path, or what the Pro version does with the extra performance beyond upscaling, remains unanswered.
Why does this matter to sim racers? BeamNG isn’t a traditional racing sim, but its physics model is the most demanding thing about it, and CPU load is where the game has historically hit its limits on modest PCs. Console hardware is fixed, so anything that reclaims GPU time is useful, but it doesn’t touch the physics-side cost that defines BeamNG’s crash and deformation simulation. A teaser about upscaling tells us the visuals are being tuned for the Pro; it says nothing yet about how many vehicles or how much AI traffic the console builds can actually run. That’s the figure worth waiting for.
Treat this as a progress signal rather than a spec announcement. It confirms the PS5 Pro build exists and is getting platform-specific work, and that BeamNG is comfortable enough with it to show footage. Concrete performance claims will have to wait for the developers to publish them.
