Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial: Eau No, Not Again!

This week's new Online Time Trial isn't doing itself any favors on variety...

Polyphony Digital’s weekly Online Time Trial rotation has landed on familiar ground again, and GTPlanet isn’t pretending to be excited about it. The outlet’s write-up on this week’s Gran Turismo 7 event leads with the variety problem rather than the challenge itself — the nod to Eau Rouge in the headline points squarely at Spa-Francorchamps, a track that has been showing up in GT7’s competitive rotation with some regularity.

That’s the whole story, and it’s worth being honest about how thin it is. There’s no controversy here, no broken leaderboard, no physics change. It’s a weekly time trial on a circuit that a lot of players have already turned thousands of laps on, and a publication noting that the well is looking a little shallow.

Why it lands with sim racers anyway: the Online Time Trials are one of the few structured, low-commitment ways to measure yourself against the wider GT7 population without committing to a Sport Mode race slot. They’re also the main place a lot of players actually learn new circuits, because there’s a concrete gold-time target and a leaderboard to chase. When the same venues keep cycling through, the mode stops functioning as a learning tool and starts functioning as a rerun. The people who already know Spa cold have nothing new to extract from it, and the people who don’t know GT7’s less-traveled tracks never get pushed toward them.

None of this is a crisis. It’s a content pacing complaint, and it’s the kind of thing that only registers because the underlying mode is good enough that people keep showing up for it. Still worth flagging: a rotation is only as valuable as the ground it covers, and right now GT7’s is covering ground it’s covered before.
