Is This the End of Forza Motorsport? Turn 10 Merges With Playground Games

Microsoft is combining Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games into a single studio "focused on the Forza and Fable franchises"...

Microsoft is folding Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games into one studio, and the stated brief for the combined team is the Forza and Fable franchises. That is the whole of what has been confirmed so far, and GTPlanet’s report frames it with the question a lot of people are already asking: what does this mean for Forza Motorsport?

The two studios have run the Forza name in parallel for over a decade. Turn 10 built the Motorsport side, the track-focused series that started on the original Xbox, while Playground built Forza Horizon into the open-world money-maker and more recently took on Fable. Putting them under one roof does not, on its own, cancel anything. But a merged studio that is explicitly described around Forza and Fable, with no separate mention of Motorsport, leaves room for a quieter outcome where the circuit game simply stops getting new entries.

Nothing in the announcement says that. It also does not say the opposite, and GTPlanet has not reported any confirmation either way on a future Motorsport title, the current game’s support plans, or how many staff are affected.

For sim racers, this matters less than it might seem on the surface. Forza Motorsport was never a hardcore sim, and the 2023 reboot landed with a rocky launch and a long list of caveats. Still, it was one of the few big-budget circuit racers left on console, and losing it would narrow an already thin field for anyone who wants something between Gran Turismo and the PC sims. If Motorsport does fade out, the practical fallout is fewer mainstream on-ramps into track racing, not any change to iRacing, ACC, or Assetto Corsa EVO. We will update if Microsoft clarifies the future of the series.
