Thrustmaster T-LCM vs Moza SR-P: Which Budget Load Cell Pedals Hold Up?

Thrustmaster T-LCM vs Moza SR-P after months on both: brake feel, mounting, software quirks, console support, and which set actually deserves your $200.

If you race on PC and have anything resembling a rig, buy the Moza SR-P. If you race on PlayStation or Xbox, or you own a Thrustmaster base and want the pedals to plug straight into it, buy the Thrustmaster T-LCM and stop reading comparison articles. That’s the split, and it isn’t close in either direction.

Neither set is a compromise the way the old T3PA or the Logitech G-series pedals were. Both have a proper load cell brake, which is the single biggest upgrade in sim racing below the cost of a direct drive base, and both will make you faster and more consistent within a week. The differences are in how they mount, how the throttle feels, which software you’ll be fighting, and what happens when you want to change the brake feel a year in. I’ve owned both. The T-LCM sat under my desk for about eighteen months before a Moza base showed up and dragged the SR-P in with it. What follows is what actually matters, not the spec sheet.

The brake, since that’s why you’re here

A load cell measures pressure rather than travel. On a potentiometer pedal you brake by remembering how far your foot moved. On a load cell you brake by remembering how hard you pushed, which is what your leg already knows how to do from a real car. This is why people on r/simracing describe their first load cell session as a revelation and then never shut up about it. They’re right, annoyingly.

The Thrustmaster T-LCM brake is rated to 100 kg and it feels like it. Stock, with the middle springs installed, the pedal barely moves. You get maybe 15 mm of travel and then a wall, and the pressure ramps very linearly from there. Thrustmaster ships a bag of six springs in three stiffnesses and you install two at a time, so you can mix a soft and a hard spring for a two-stage feel. Swapping them takes ten minutes and one Allen key, and every T-LCM owner I know has done it exactly once and never touched it again. The thing to understand is that even the softest combination is firm. This is a pedal that wants you to stomp.

The Moza SR-P brake is rated to 75 kg and uses a spring plus a rubber elastomer stack instead of springs alone. Out of the box it has more travel than the T-LCM, with a softer initial section before the elastomer starts pushing back. Some people love this immediately because it feels more like a road car. I found it slightly mushy for the first week, and the elastomer has a faint sponginess at the top of the stroke that took me a while to trust in trail braking. Moza sells a Brake Performance Kit for around $40 with harder elastomers and a stiffer spring, and after fitting the firmest combination the SR-P brake became my preference over the T-LCM. Before the kit, I’d call it a draw with a lean toward the Thrustmaster. That’s an extra purchase Moza should arguably have included, and the Moza Discord will tell you the same thing.

In practice: braking for La Source at Spa in the 992 GT3 R in ACC, the T-LCM makes it easy to hit the same 85% peak lap after lap because the wall is so definite. The SR-P (stock) makes it easier to bleed off pressure smoothly as the car rotates through the corner, but your peak wanders more. With the performance kit the SR-P does both. In iRacing on the MX-5 at Lime Rock, where you’re threshold braking into the Downhill and the car punishes overslowing, I was quicker on the SR-P by a tenth or two, and I put that down to the extra travel giving my foot more information before lockup.

Set your iRacing brake force factor to 0 with either pedal. The default curve is designed to make potentiometer brakes tolerable and it just adds nonlinearity you don’t want on a load cell. In ACC leave gamma at 1.0 and do your curve shaping in the pedal software if you must.

Throttle and clutch, where the Moza pulls away

The T-LCM throttle is the weakest part of the set and everyone who owns one knows it. The spring is light, the travel is short, and the pedal has a slightly hollow, toy-like return that never bothers you while racing but never impresses you either. It uses a magnetic hall sensor, which is good news for longevity: no potentiometer to wear out, no spiking after two years like the older Thrustmaster sets. Same for the clutch, which is fine, exists, and is included. That last point matters if you run an H-pattern shifter. The T-LCM is a three-pedal set for the money. The SR-P is a two-pedal set, and the clutch module is an extra $50-ish on top.

The SR-P throttle is a real step up. Longer travel, a firmer spring, and the pedal face has a proper heavy return. It also uses a hall sensor. The clutch add-on is good, matches the throttle’s feel, and bolts to the same base plate in five minutes. But if you’re buying for rally or Le Mans Ultimate’s manual-clutch launch starts, you’re spending around $250 for three Moza pedals against around $200-230 for three Thrustmaster ones, and that shifts the value math a bit.

Mounting and desk reality

Here’s the part spec sheets skip. The T-LCM is a compact, self-contained unit with a rubber base and threaded holes underneath. It’s designed to sit on a floor and be held in place by a carpet spike plate or your wall. On hardwood with a chair on wheels it slides. Every time. The T-LCM Pro bundle adds a heel plate and non-slip pad that helps, but for the T-LCM’s real strength, which is being mountable on a wheel stand or a cheap rig, you’ll want to bolt it down. The hole pattern is Thrustmaster-standard and most stands have matching slots.

The SR-P is a different kind of object. It comes as a full-length steel base plate with the pedal modules bolted to it, adjustable fore and aft in slots. It weighs noticeably more than the Thrustmaster and does not feel like something you’d put loose on carpet. That plate is what makes it a “rig” pedal set: you drop it onto an aluminium-profile pedal deck, run four bolts, done. It also flexes a little at full brake pressure if only bolted at the ends, which you’ll notice as a faint creak. Bolt the middle too. Moza’s Discord has an entire pinned thread about this.

For wheel stands, the SR-P’s long plate is sometimes too wide for the pedal tray on the cheaper stands, so check your tray width before you order. The T-LCM will fit almost anything.

If your setup is a desk, a chair, and a floor, the T-LCM’s smaller footprint and the availability of the Pro heel plate make it the less annoying choice. But you’ll be braking at 30-40 kg on a set rated for 100, and your chair will be sliding backwards, and you’ll eventually build a rig anyway. Software and connection

The T-LCM connects two ways. Over USB to a PC it shows up as its own device with full resolution, and you use the Thrustmaster Control Panel plus a separate T-LCM calibration tool to set the load cell’s max force and dead zones. Over the RJ12 cable to a T300, T-GT, or TX base it reports through the wheel, which is how console use works. Firmware updates are the usual Thrustmaster experience: a bootloader mode, a specific order of operations, and a forum post from 2021 explaining why yours didn’t work. Once it’s updated, it stays updated. Mine went a year without being touched.

The SR-P also connects two ways: RJ11 into a Moza base (R5, R9, R12, R3, or the R16/R21) or USB straight to the PC. Through a Moza base it appears as one device with the wheel, which some sims prefer and is slightly tidier. Everything is configured in Pit House, which is far better than Thrustmaster’s software and lets you set a max brake force in kilograms, a curve shape, and dead zones per pedal, with a live readout. Pit House has been through a few rough updates; the Moza Discord is where you find out which version to skip. Moza is also the newer company, and while their support has been fine in my experience, they don’t have Thrustmaster’s decade of documentation and third-party compatibility. That’s a real consideration if you like knowing that a random Reddit thread from 2019 will solve your problem.

One quirk worth knowing: the T-LCM’s max-force setting is a coarse selection rather than a continuous value, and the calibration tool’s presets feel like they were designed around someone with a very strong right leg. Most people end up on one of the lower settings and never look again. The SR-P’s Pit House setting is a number in kg. Start around 40 for a rig with a fixed seat, 25-30 for a desk setup, then raise it 5 kg at a time until your peak braking gets consistent instead of just hard.

What breaks, rattles, or annoys

On the T-LCM, over eighteen months: the rubber pad on the base peeled at one corner, the throttle developed a faint plasticky click at full extension, and the brake once started reading a phantom 3% at rest after a hot summer afternoon, which a recalibration fixed. There’s a scattering of forum reports about brake signal spikes after certain firmware updates. I never hit it. Build quality is metal pedal arms and faces on a plastic-housed base, and it feels more expensive than a T3PA and cheaper than it should for the price.

On the SR-P, over about a year: the plate creak mentioned above until I bolted the middle, and the throttle spring makes a faint twang on quick releases that I eventually stopped noticing. The elastomer in the brake has not softened noticeably. The pedal faces, which are adjustable in height and angle, loosened once and needed retightening with a bit of thread lock. All metal, all heavier, all fine.

Neither set has given me a reason to open a support ticket, which for sub-$250 pedals is the correct outcome.

The argument nobody wins on Discord

The recurring fight is whether the T-LCM’s 100 kg rating means anything against the SR-P’s 75. It doesn’t. Almost nobody brakes above 50 kg in a sim, and the ones who do are on fixed bucket seats bolted to 80/20 profile. The rating tells you the sensor’s ceiling, not how good the brake feels at the 30-45 kg where you’ll actually live. What matters is how the pedal ramps to that pressure and how repeatable it is, and both of these sets are repeatable enough that your own leg is the limiting factor.

The other fight, quieter but more relevant, is whether the SR-P’s stock brake is “wrong” without the Performance Kit. My position: it’s not wrong, but it’s tuned for someone stepping up from a G29, not for someone who has already used a stiff load cell. If you’re coming from a Thrustmaster T3PA with the conical brake mod, or from a T-LCM, budget the extra $40 and order the kit at the same time.

Does the Moza SR-P work without a Moza wheelbase?

Yes. It has a USB connection and shows up as a standalone controller on PC. You’ll still use Pit House to configure it. If you later buy a Moza base, you can move to the RJ11 connection and have everything in one device.

Can I use the Thrustmaster T-LCM on PS5?

Yes, through the RJ12 connection to a PlayStation-compatible Thrustmaster base like the T300RS or T-GT II. On console you lose the separate calibration tool, so brake force is set with the base’s own controls and it’s less granular than on PC. Still a load cell, still a huge upgrade over the stock T3PA.

Is the T-LCM brake too stiff for a desk setup?

Stock, yes, for most people. Fit the softest spring pair and drop the max force setting to the lowest preset and it becomes usable on an office chair. You’ll still be braking with your whole body and sliding backwards, though. The pedal is doing exactly what a load cell should do; it’s the chair that’s wrong.

Check this before you order

Buy the Moza SR-P if you’re on PC, you have or will have a rig or a sturdy wheel stand with a pedal tray at least as wide as the base plate, and you’d rather have the better throttle and the better software. Add the Brake Performance Kit to the same order. If you need a clutch, price the three-pedal version against the T-LCM before you commit, because the gap narrows.

Buy the Thrustmaster T-LCM if you’re on PlayStation, you’re on Xbox without a Moza R3, you already own a Thrustmaster base and want a single-cable setup, or you need three pedals for the lowest possible outlay. Fit the mixed spring pair (one soft, one hard) on day one and set the force preset lower than you think you need.

In either case, measure the space under your desk or the tray on your stand before you order. The number of people who buy a load cell set and then discover it doesn’t fit between the desk legs, or overhangs the stand tray by two inches, is not small, and the returns process on pedals is worse than on wheels because of the shipping weight.
